چکیده

Background: I-131 (radioactive iodine (RAI)) therapy effectively targets overactivity of the thyroid gland; however, literature provides conflicting outcomes regarding dosage optimization for patients with hyperthyroidism and associated clinical complications. This retrospective study aimed to validate therapeutic efficacy an empirically derived institution formula in resolving by establishing a euthyroid or hypothyroid state. Methods: chart review was undertaken 89 adult (> 18 years) who received from 2016 2020 at H&H/Queens, New York. The dose range determined accordance their gland weight uptake percentages; follow-up assessment performed duration 6 - 12 months. IRB approval reference HS-STUDY-21-01760 obtained. All subjects consented using written consent document private room. patient’s data are stored confidentially password-protected computer, which is accessible only group. primary endpoint (i.e., treatment success) defined interim development state, hypothyroidism, subclinical/questionable/suspected questionable secondary endpoints included frequency repeat RAI doses post-ablation function tests (TFTs). Results: univariate multivariate analysis patient indicated 83% success rate achievement state hypothyroidism 6.7% 70.8% patients, along attainment status, subclinical suspected 1.1%, 2.2%, 1.1% respectively. In addition, low number 9%) required dosages achieve results clinically significant impact on thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), triiodothyronine (T3), free thyroxin (FT4) levels. Conclusion: this testified current institution’s treating hyperthyroidism. retreatment requirement strengthened evidence favoring J Endocrinol Metab. 2023;13(2):49-56 doi: https://doi.org/10.14740/jem874

Treatment of hyperthyroidism with iodine-131.

A retrospective study of radiolodine therapy for thyrotoxicosis was done in 402 patients over a period of 10 years from 1963 to 1972. The patients were classified as follows: (1) Age (2) Sex (3) Size of the gland estimated by physical exmination (4) Type of goitre (diffuse, nodular) (5) Ocular signs (6) Number of doses and (7) Total dose of 1-13 1 administered. The usual age for the treatment w...

Lithium carbonate pre-treatment in 131-I therapy of hyperthyroidism.

BACKGROUND The aim of the present work was to investigate the influence of lithium carbonate on the kinetics of radioiodine in the thyroid gland, and the long-lasting effect of radioiodine therapy pre-treated with lithium carbonate in patients with different types of hyperthyreosis and low baseline 24-h thyroidal radioactive iodine uptake (RAIU). MATERIAL AND METHODS The examinations were per...

Background: Reliable estimation of radiation-absorbed dose is necessary to evaluate the benefits and the risks of radiopharmaceuticals used for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes in nuclear medicine. Materiel and Methods: This study included 47 patients treated with iodine-131 for Graves’ disease. A comparative study between Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation and MIRD formalism was carried out to ev...

I-131 treatment of hyperthyroidism. Analysis of 369 cases treated with an initial dose of 15 MC or less.

Patients with hyperthyroidism can be treated by one of the following methods: (1) medical treatment with thiocarbamide, (2) surgical treatment with subtotal thyroidectomy, and (:·n radiological treatment with radioactive iodine (1131). Although each has certain advantages and disadvantages, radioiodine has apparently been used much more frequently in recent years because of its simplicity, safe...
